PAUL PAX

Owner/Manager/ Personal Trainer

Meet Paul Pax

Paul has extensive management, personal training, customer service and experience as a commissioned officer for the US Air Force, including leading almost 1,500 troops into combat zones.

He has been a Certified Personal Trainer for 24 Hour Fitness, Powerhouse/Vancouver Total Fitness and Princeton Athletic Club, as well as Anytime Fitness Vancouver Mall and Esther Short Park.

He also has extensive training and experience in martial arts, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and numerous military operations working closely with US Special Operations personnel, Federal Bureau of Investigation, US Marshals, Secret Service and several local police departments.

Paul has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington. 

He is definitely passionate about fitness and health, which show in his ability to motivate everyone from extreme athletes to soccer moms to reach their goals.

Paul is a Certified Instructor under the Thai Boxing Association of the USA.  He teaches the Muay Thai kickboxing classes at the downtown Vancouver location on Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30 pm and Saturdays at 12:30 pm as well as the Youth Muay Thai Class on Saturdays at 11:30 am.

He currently manages Anytime Fitness Vancouver Mall (next to Vancouver Mall/Westfield Shopping Center).

Kevin Orr

Meet Kevin Orr

Kevin is a distinguished certified personal trainer with more than ten years of experience behind him. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Warner Pacific College and also holds numerous certifications including NASM and ISSA. He is most sought after for his experience in performance nutrition, sports conditioning, sports psychology, sports rehabilitation, weight management, and exercise for the physically challenged. His training methods have led to client success in all fields of competitive sports, bodybuilding, lifestyle management, and weight loss.

He is the author of "10 Weeks to a New You".

Rocky Shorey

Meet Rocky Shorey

Rocky grew up on the island of Hawaii and moved to Vancouver when he was 11.  In college his passion and love quickly became active living and meeting and sharing with people all the positive attributes that come with living an active and healthy lifestyle.  He has done a marathon, triathlon, and is currently an active rock climber, hiker, runner, snowboarder, biker, and works out religiously.  Rocky also trains in MMA and works as a skydiving instructor.  He loves motivating and working out with all types of people at all types of levels.  Rocky makes it his personal goal to take each client to their own goals no matter how difficult they are.  He hopes and strives to inspire his clients as much as they have inspired him.  He lives by the motto that "There is no mountain to difficult to climb" and "No distance to far to run."

Will Lowe 

Move & Grove, Tai Chi, QiGong

Meet Will Lowe

I am Will Lowe and I lead the Move and Groove class, Tai Chi and Senior Qigong classes. I know only too well how the ravages of stress can hurt the body. I worked as a federal investigator and in the business world for many years. In 12/01 I was diagnosed with cancer. I had to evaluate my life and was forced to return to my earlier life of fitness to get back to being cancer free for almost 10 years now.

I studied Qigong and Tai Chi over 25 years ago and found that to be an important part of my healing process. Qigong and Tai Chi are slow moving exercises that are designed to restore the various organs and meridians in the body. I learned from Eric Levine one of the pioneers of aerobics and created Move and Groove for a fun cardio workout that incorporates aspects from many different cardio disciplines.

My interests center around my family. I have two amazing daughters and an amazing wife. I also love music, horses, and working on my farm. I am a licensed massage therapist and reflexologist and use that occupation along with my exercise classes to rid my clients of the ravages of stress in their lives.

Meet Toni Waring

A lifetime of health is the result of physical activity and a mindful, nutritional diet. My passion for both has lead me to instructing cardio-kickboxing aerobic classes since 2007. In striving personally to achieve my own fitness goals, I have learned that long term commitment is not only the result of internal dedication, but motivation and support from family and friends as well. Exercise should be fun and socially stimulating. Sharing fitness in a group setting is certainly the most rewarding way to achieve a lifetime of good health!

Meet John and Tracy Pax

John has been a "gym rat" all his life.  For years, he's had a dream to open up his own gym.  He has extensive management, personal training, and customer service training and experience, working as an Assistant General Manager and Certified Personal Trainer for 24 Hour Fitness and Powerhouse/Vancouver Total Fitness.  He also has extensive accounting and bookkeeping experience as well as a Degree in Finance from Oregon State University.  John has achieved 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in three novice bodybuilding competitions.

He now manages the new gym - AFESP (Esther Short Park - downtown Vancouver).

Tracy taught in the Battleground School District for nine years.  Eight of those years were as a kindergarten teacher.  Tracy has a Bachelor of Science degree from Portland State University and a Masters in Teaching degree from Washington State University - Vancouver.  She is currently taking time off to spend more time with their children.  You'll also see her in the gyms working behind the scenes. 

John and Tracy have two beautiful kids, Quinn, 8yrs & Mylia, 6yrs. 

JULIE GROSS

Meet Julie Gross

With over 15 years in the industry "passionate about training" and "passionate about her clients" are how her clients  speak of her.  The daughter of Carol and Dr. J. Al.Gross Ph.d.  Julie's interest were nurtured early on. She has competed in 6 body building shows, never taking less than 3rd place.  She challenged herself to racing bicycles from sprints in the velodrome against national competitors to mountain biking, and trained herself for the endurance of marathons and sprint distance triathalons.  Nutrition is key in all training.  Julie has the experience to guide you. Results and lifestyle changes are a matter of when not if.  Julie coaches groups as well as individuals.  Her motto is:  PERSEVERANCE - the greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.

JEFF HANSSEN

Meet Jeff Hanssen

Jeff seemed destined to be involved in fitness from a young age. Under the tutelage of Ken Cole, considered by many to be the greatest steroid-free bodybuilder of his era and of all-time, and Blair McHaney, a frequent trainer of national weight loss challenge winners, Jeff was fortunate enough to learn the principles and approach necessary for one to reach their level of competency as it pertains to their overall health.
Jeff's athletic accomplishments are wide ranging: soon after beginning exercising, Jeff won Mr. Jr. Washington State, Mr. Jr. Evergreen State, first place in his class at the Washington State Ironman, and several other bodybuilding titles. Jeff also has NCAA athletic experience, and has even been trained by legendary professional wrestlers “Playboy” Buddy Rose and Ed “Colonel DeBeers” Wiskoski.
On a professional level Jeff has found his niche in teaching fitness principles to others, and has been involved in fitness training, nutritional counseling, and teaching others the importance of a healthy lifestyle for over ten years. Jeff's main focuses are helping people lose body fat, achieve an overall sense of good health, gain a healthy amount of lean muscle, improve core strength and flexibility, and teach these fundamentals to others in such a way that they'll be able to bring what they learn from him with them for the rest of their lives.
Keeping a relatively low profile, Jeff has recently started receiving awards and recognition for his services and has been casted for television and movie parts. He believes achieving success in fitness doesn't necessarily come from an increase in head knowledge, but derives rather from a keen sense of drive and passion that is balance with determination, a willingness to learn, and a dedication to reaching one's own potential. Jeff also holds a degree in English Literature, and enjoys exercising, eating, playing jokes on his friends, reading, and lying in the sun.

Meet Nathan Krug

Nathan was born in South Korea and adopted at 2 1/2 years. He grew up in Stevenson, WA and moved to Vancouver after graduating high school. Health and fitness have always been his passion and when he took the step into personal training, he realized what he wanted to do in life. He continually seeks out the most current information in health and fitness to gain more knowledge and move forward everyday. he specialized in balance, core strength and effective training. "If your trainer can't do it, what right do they have to tell you to do it?"

Ranae Scott

Meet Ranae Scott

Ranae has studied Vinyasa-based yoga for the past six years. She began teaching the art after moving to Bellingham in 2008. In the course of her college career there—amidst English Lit degree studies, and pouring sweat and blood into WWU’s dance program productions—Ranae acquired Yogafit’s Level I and Level II teaching certifications. She eventually became the primary yoga instructor at the Student Recreation Center, thanks to a fellow instructor’s personal recommendation and the support of her own committed students. She cultivated yoga within WWU and the Bellingham community until graduating in 2010.

Now Ranae is once again a Vancouver local, who is passionate as ever and continues to teach. Her main drive is to inspire. Her sessions are fast-paced and physically demanding; each flow propels students forward—toward increased flexibility, strength and balance—by encouraging the individual to challenge preconceived limitations while remaining intuitive to his or her breath and body. In Ranae’s own life, yoga has saturated each day with focus, persistence, presence, and vitality. She invites all to try out her class and experience it firsthand.
